Two Seattle City Light workers were taken to Harborview Medical Center after they were burned by an arc flash event in an underground vault last week.

According to a report from The Seattle Times, the workers were in the vault doing routine maintenance on a network protector, or a device that helps regulate voltage within the downtown network. “While they were doing their work there was an arc flash," a City Light spokesman said.

The woman, 59, was taken to the hospital in serious condition and the man, 40, had minor injuries.

City Light is investigating to determine what caused the accident.
