CP&L Energy Inc., a Progress Energy electric utility company based in Raleigh, N.C., has launched a new program that repairs and replaces home electrical wiring and components. Called Home Wiring Service, the program works like the phone company's home telephone wiring service, helping protect homeowners from the costly expense of unexpected electrical repairs.

For $3.95 a month, the service covers many of the most common electrical-wiring troubles involving outlets, switches, fuses, breakers, inside wiring and even the electric meter outside one's home.

“It's a relatively small price to pay when you consider the cost of most home electrical repairs today,” said Rudy Masi, power quality consultant for Progress Energy's Energy Services. Subscribers call CP&L's electrical experts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for prompt response. A licensed, qualified and CP&L-approved electrician will repair any covered problem.

The $3.95 monthly fee includes:

  • Up to $500 coverage per year on outlets, switches, dimmers, fuses, breakers, inside wiring and the electric meter can.

  • On-call operators available to take repair requests 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A licensed, CP&L-approved electrical contractor will schedule a service appointment as soon as possible

  • All repair work performed by a licensed, qualified, CP&L-approved electrician.

  • A 15% discount on the cost of repairs that aren't covered.
