Hatzel & Buehler, Inc.
New York
Founded 1884

Hatzel & Buehler, Inc. — the oldest electrical contracting company featured in this special report — has ties to Thomas Edison. John D. Hatzel and Joseph Buehler served as master electricians at Edison’s first publicly owned and operated electrical generating station, the Electric Illuminating Co. In 1884, soon after completion of the first commercial electrical generating plant, Hatzel & Buehler left to start a partnership and open the firm’s first office in New York City in the age of commercial electrification in America.

“Mr. Hatzel and Mr. Buehler founded the company on the principles of integrity, innovation, and quality,” says Bill Goeller, president of Hatzel & Buehler. “With such principles at its foundation, Hatzel & Buehler remains the oldest electrical contracting company in the United States.”

Today, the electrical contracting company has established long-standing relationships with its clients, offering expertise in electrical design, construction, engineering, integration, and maintenance. Hatzel & Buehler handles projects ranging from simple service calls to complex, multi-phased design/build projects, tackling some of the most complex and varied projects nationwide, according to the company.

“As Hatzel & Buehler looks to the future, we are committed to setting the standard for excellence for the electrical contracting industry,” Goeller says. “We are constantly striving to improve upon processes and performances as well as deliver unsurpassed value and satisfaction to our customers.”
