The paper reports that more than half of data network problems are related to the cabling infrastructure, yet current data cabling solutions provide sufficient headroom for bandwidth-hungry applications. The paper also reviews the cost-saving possibilities that convergence makes possible.

Wiring Site Registers 1500th User

StraightlineSupply.com, a factory-direct, online supplier of products for the premise wiring industry, has officially registered 1500 contractors and installers since going live in December 2000. In the future, the site plans to add an inventory of related products for CATV, electrical, and security and alarm markets.

Facility Gets TL 9000 Approval

General Cable has received TL 9000 quality standards registration for its outside plant telecommunications cable manufacturing facility in Lawrenceburg, Ky. The facility, which produces outside plant telecommunications and high-speed data networking cable, is among a small group of manufacturing facilities in the world to achieve this quality standards registration for telecommunications products.
