Dynalectric Co., a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., has recently been recognized with two awards for exemplary safety practices and performance from the Georgia Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC):

• A 2013 Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) Platinum Level award, which marks the second consecutive year the company has received a STEP award.
• A 2013 Safety Award of Excellence, recognizing companies for having no employee fatalities and total recordable and lost times rates lower than the national average.

ABC's STEP awards recognize member companies using effective safety practices on jobsites, based on 20 key elements of contractor safety programs, such as management commitment, pre-planning for safety on jobsites, safety training, and resources committed to safety. The STEP process, developed and written by contractors for contractors, is designed to objectively evaluate safety programs, policies, procedures, and training.

“STEP participants consistently out-perform the National BLS averages for fatalities, injuries, and lost time,” said 2013 ABC Safety Forum Chairman Andrew Virga, who announced the award recipients at the ABC 2013 Safety Awards ceremony luncheon held recently in Atlanta. Virga commended the award winners for their achievement and emphasized the importance of keeping workers safe on the jobsite.

“In addition to Dynalectric Co. rates being lower than the national average during 2012, it had zero recordable incidents,” stated Ray Hopkins, president of the Dynalectric Co. Division in Atlanta. “At Dynalectric and across the entire EMCOR organization we’ve worked hard to develop a culture of safety. We’re very proud to receive these recognitions — testaments to the dedication of our people — as we continue to strive for our goal of zero accidents, so employees may return home safely every day.”

Dynalectric’s commitment to safety is part of a multi-tiered, integrated approach that includes a Zero Accident program as well as a host of supporting initiatives, such as the Be There For Life program. This EMCOR effort is designed to educate employees and families about the importance of safety through use of workplace posters, in company newsletters, mailings, and a number of other creative tactics. EMCOR also conducts regional Target Zero safety conferences, bringing together industry experts from its operating companies and partners to share information and successful strategies.
