IAEI, ICC Announce Agreement to Improve Safety

July 12, 2012

Improving public safety through the use and proper installation of code compliant electrical products is the purpose of an agreement signed between the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) and the International Code Council (ICC). The two organizations share a common mission concerning the safety of the built environment and will advance shared goals, including code development related to electrical safety and a joint certification program.

IAEI and the ICC have worked together for many years. The new memorandum of understanding significantly strengthens the relationship between the two professional organizations and furthers shared goals to improve public safety in the built environment. The MOU specifies activities and arrangements intended to jointly advance mutual interests to promote the development, application and enforcement of codes and standards concerning electrical safety.

“Electrical safety is a key component of the International Codes and is referenced through standards and the National Electrical Code,” said Rick Weiland, ICC CEO. “We are pleased to be working with the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and its members to further advance public safety.”

“The proliferation of energy sources underscores the need for vigilance, extensive training and development of safety standards, all of which are mandated in IAEI’s education programs,” said David Clements, IAEI CEO. “This agreement will build upon an already strong relationship we have with ICC to enhance electrical safety in our communities and to be of mutual benefit to our membership bases.”
