Leviton Launches Library of BIM Objects

May 11, 2010
BIM objects and Visio stencils now available for free download at Leviton Web site

Bothell, Wash.-based Leviton is supporting building information modeling (BIM) by offering a library of free downloadable BIM objects. BIM software creates three-dimensional, dynamic spatial models and can incorporate detailed product information, quantities, and properties. Leviton’s library of objects, which currently includes patch panels, fiber enclosures, wallplates, connectors, and cable management, are available for both Autodesk Revit and Bentley’s MicroStation software. Leviton plans on regularly adding new products to the library.

"Leviton’s new object library is a response to the rapid growth of BIM use in design and construction projects," says Dennis Manes, senior applications engineer for Leviton Network Solutions. "The enhanced product information tied to each object makes our library valuable to contractors, designers, building owners, and all other stakeholders in a construction project."

In addition to offering BIM objects on its Web site, Leviton has expanded its selection of free Visio stencils to include new copper and fiber components and Connected Home products, also available for free download. Visio stencils are often used within network diagrams, rack elevations, and other drawings and details found in construction documents.
