Engineering team offers strong portfolio in power and energy

Boston-based Vanderweil Engineers, one of the nation’s largest and most experienced mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firms, has announced the opening of a Southern California office. Located in Long Beach, the office will serve the region with expertise in combined heat and power (CHP); renewable energy; district heating/cooling systems, central utility plants; and electrical transmission and distribution/substation systems.

The Vanderweil Power Group Southern California office will be directed by Jeff Duncan, a principal with Vanderweil Engineers who has more than 23 years of experience in managing, developing, engineering, constructing, and commissioning CHP, central energy plants, and district systems. He has worked with universities, industries, federal agencies, wastewater and solid waste plant owners, and municipal governments. Duncan previously served as principal and national sales manager for power at Jacobs Engineering and has been a member of the International District Energy Association since 1994.

Duncan will be supported by a highly experienced team of professionals including Les Wiedemann, engineering manager; Irina Dubinsky, lead mechanical engineer; and Kelsey Monne, who will oversee West Coast marketing for the office.

Wiedemann has more than 30 years of experience in project management, engineering, design, QA/QC, construction, and start-up of district energy; cogeneration; chilled water systems; and natural gas, coal, and nuclear power electric generation stations. He previously served as chief engineer for Jacobs Southern California Power Group.

Dubinsky also has more than 30 years of experience in mechanical engineering in the field of electric power generation, CHP, thermal energy storage, bio-gas fired generation, and industrial process for institutional and private clients. She previously served as lead power mechanical engineer for Worley-Parsons.

Duncan, Wiedemann, and Dubinsky have worked together in the energy and power business for more than ten years, serving a diverse array of North American clients.
