Company will build the largest engine plant in the United States

Wärtsilä North America recently signed its largest contract to date with Barrick Goldstrike Mines to build an engine plant located about 15 miles east of Reno, Nev. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the plant will be the largest gas reciprocating engine plant in the United States based on summer-rated capability.

Wärtsilä will provide the power plant to Barrick. It will consist of 14 of the company’s reciprocating gas-fired engines, which will have a total net output of 115.6MW. The plant is expected to be commercially operational by October 2005.
