Electrical Builders, Inc. is celebrating a major milestone in 2014, with its 40th year in business. From humble beginnings out of a home office in Kimball, Minnesota, in 1974, Electrical Builders, Inc. (EBI™) has grown into an industry leader in high power electrical construction, power plant maintenance, safety, quality, innovation, project management, diversity and operations. This has resulted in successful power projects throughout North America, including servicing 60% of the domestic nuclear fleet and more than 3000 projects at fossil, hydro and solar plants from coast to coast. EBI has also secured service agreements with many of the leading utilities including Exelon, Entergy, MidAmerican Energy, Midwest Generation, Phillips 66, Progress Energy, Xcel Energy and PG&E.
Constance Netter, president and CEO of EBI said, “Eric and I met while both serving in the Air Force during the Vietnam era. A few short years after getting married, we founded what was then called Dispatch Welding & Erectors. I took care of the office and administrative functions and Eric performed the technical services in the field. As a struggling new company with meager funds, four young children, and Eric working in the field for 27 years, work frequently rolled into the late hours of the night and weekends. Anyone who has started a business knows that it takes a lot of effort to maintain some sort of work/life balance. This becomes even more challenging when your partner is your spouse and you find your meal-time conversations engulfed with topics of business. However, we persevered and are very excited to be celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary this year as well.”
In 2005, the company purchased its first official office building in Clear Lake, Minnesota. “Since our inception, EBI has found our success in dedicating ourselves to pioneering new standards in the high power industrial electrical industry, setting and raising the bar in safety, efficiency, innovation, quality, leadership, customer service and technical expertise while maintaining the highest level of craftsmanship in the market,” stated Eric Netter, VP of Construction and Co-Founder. He continues, “In addition to celebrating 40 years in business, January 2014 also marks our 5th consecutive year without a lost time incident. This didn’t happen by accident, rather by the dedicated efforts and attention to detail that is required by all of our employees to achieve the goal of ‘5 years safe.’ To say we are pleased with our team is an understatement.”
As growth and success of the company continued, in 2008 it moved into a new 25,000 square foot building in St. Cloud, Minnesota, equipped with an in-house fabrication shop for hard to find, obsolete and emergency isophase, non-seg and related bus duct replacement components. “It is gratifying to reflect back on the fact that we started as a two person team in 1974 and have grown to nearly 100 employees in 2013. We are proud of the reputation our team has established as isolated phase bus and non-seg bus experts along with becoming a leading industrial electrical construction and maintenance service provider for power plants and utilities throughout North America,” stated Mrs. Netter.
This respectable reputation has earned EBI such honors as the “Key Contractor Award” for Bechtel Corporation in both 2011 & 2012. They have been appointed to the Communication Committee of the American Nuclear Society (ANS), and are the first contractor in their space to obtain and maintain ISO 9001:2008 Quality certification. They have completed 5 out of the last 5 EPU’s for Exelon’s nuclear stations with unprecedented schedules. They hold an exclusive relationship with Doble Corporation for online EMI diagnostic testing at nuclear facilities in the US, and are frequently solicited to present best practices for inspection and maintenance of bus duct and related high power conductor system components to utility and power plant personnel worldwide. EBI is also proud to promote diversity as a women owned company (WBENC certified) and to support fellow Veterans, employing active military personnel and soliciting retired Vets.
As EBI looks to the future and another 40 years of success, exciting new opportunities are on the horizon for this steadily growing company. Jessica Netter Ducharme, VP Sales & Marketing and Partner shared, “A recent internal project we completed was the launch of our new website. As we were refining the technical details and finalizing content, it was overwhelming to read all the positive performance reviews and notes of appreciation from our clients. We want to express our utmost gratitude to all of our clients who have given us the opportunity to demonstrate our quality and expertise on their projects. We look forward to exceeding expectations for another 40 years and beyond.”
