On July 11, 2013, the State of Idaho Electrical Board unanimously recommended adoption of the 2014 National Electrical Code with some residential amendments. According to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association's website, the Electrical Board’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Idaho legislature in January 2014. If approved, the 2014 NEC will become effective in Idaho in July 2014.
Idaho is currently using the 2008 edition of the NEC. After approval of the Electrical Board’s recommendation by the legislature, the state will bypass the 2011 NEC and move directly to the 2014 edition. In doing so, Idaho will be one of the first states in the nation to adopt the 2014 NEC.
