Think a bit beyond the PM procedure, when looking to eliminate wasted steps.
What if there’s a need to collect an oil sample from a transformer? It’s better to have clean-up materials with you and not need them, than to need them and make a round trip to get them.
Time a few maintenance tasks to see how long it takes to remove cover screws and then put them back — especially if they aren’t captive screws and one rolls under a cabinet (round trip to go get the magnetic pickup). Can these be replaced by latches or flip levers?
One huge time-waster is removing covers on switchgear to conduct infra-red thermography. It’s dangerous, too. You can improve accuracy, reduce danger, and save time by installing IR windows. Don’t let the “high” price be a barrier; these quickly pay for themselves.
