A May study from Business Communications Co. Inc. reports that the worldwide value of uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) reached $6.1 billion in 2000. The study, titled “Uninterruptible Power Supply: Continuous Data and Network Services,†also concludes that the market will cross $11 billion by 2005, based on an expected average annual growth rate (AAGR) of 12.7%.

The study, titled “Uninterruptible Power Supply: Continuous Data and Network Services,” also concludes that the market will cross $11 billion by 2005, based on an expected average annual growth rate (AAGR) of 12.7%.

In addition, the value of worldwide shipments of UPS equipment reached $5.3 billion in 2000, the study says. The value of traditional static or electronic devices totaled $5.1 billion in 2000, while rotary and flywheel devices reached $230 million. With an AAGR of 13%, total shipments would reach $9.8 billion by 2005.

The study found that the computer industry continues to be the major driving force for UPS system growth, while communications services are the second largest user of these systems. Areas for potential growth include the medical, laboratory, and security systems markets.
