Electrical Problem Forcing BART Cars Out of Service

March 4, 2016
The problem is ongoing and  first began to surface on Feb. 20.

An electrical problem has forced San Francisco's massive BART transit system to take 80 damaged passenger cars out of service. The problem is ongoing, according to a CBS SF Bay Area report, and  first began to surface on Feb. 20.

A BART spokesman said that they know where the problem is occurring but not the cause. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that officials believe the cars’ electrical components are being damaged by a power surge from a substation near the east end of the tube. According to the Chronicle, 40 cars alone were taken out of service on Monday.
