When installing outlet boxes for wall-mounted luminaires, when can you use No. 6 screws to secure the luminaire yoke to a plaster ring, which is attached to the wall-mounted outlet box?
- Never
- Only when the plaster ring is secured on all four corners.
- Only when the plaster ring has an properly sized equipment bonding jumper attached to it.
- When the wall-mounted luminaire weighs 6 lb or less, and is supported by no fewer than two No. 6 screws.
Answer: D
As noted by the Exception in 314.27(A), "A wall-mounted luminaire weighing not more than 3 kg (6 lb) shall be permitted to be supported on other boxes or plaster rings that are secured to other boxes, provided the luminaire or its supporting yoke is secured to the box with no fewer than two No. 6 or larger screws." This is one example where No. 8 screws are not required.
