High School Pool in Massachusetts Remains Closed from Grounding Issues

While installing new blocks in the pool, workers discovered the pool's equipment -- the metal ladders, diving board, and the original starting blocks -- were not properly grounded.

A high school pool in East Sandwich, Mass., has delayed reopening after repairs because the pool was not properly grounded. While installing new blocks in the pool, workers discovered the pool's equipment -- the metal ladders, diving board, and the original starting blocks -- were not properly grounded according to a report from CapeNews.net.

The superintendent said that the equipment "not being grounded goes back 40 years. We’re very fortunate that we’ve never had an issue. One thing we will not compromise is safety.”

Once the problem was discovered, an electrician was brought in to plan a fix, the report said. The superintendent said that the work is under way and that the building inspector is ensuring that everything is up to code before allowing the pool to be used.
