This short piece of raceway, which terminates in a fitting on the side of this 4-gang surface-mounted box (right), and the surface-mounted receptacle on the left were never designed for a tap. In fact, the existing circuit was originally installed to supply power to a coffee maker. When tested, I found the receptacles were not properly wired and were without an equipment-grounding conductor. This installation violates the requirements of 110.3(B) and 210.7.
