Unions are upset with Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert over her choices for the city's electrical board, and air conditioning and air distribution board. According to Omaha.com, she declined to reappoint the sitting union representative to the board and didn’t consult with union management when she picked a replacement.
The Omaha, Neb., mayor said that she can appoint whomever she wants to the board, and that the law does not require her to consult with the unions. But union leaders say that violates a long-held understanding that the mayor will solicit nominations from unions for such board seats, Omaha.com reported.
In appointing a member of the electrical board, Stothert chose a local foreman and journeyman electrician, over a sitting board member. The president of the Omaha AFL-CIO, along with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 22 business manager, wrote Stothert to oppose the appointment, saying she should have asked the union for nominees.
