The union representing electricians, plumbers, elevator mechanics and other workers at UCLA have authorized a strike Jan. 6-10 to demand higher wages. According to an Associated Press report, the five-day strike will be held just after students return from winter break and is expected to cause disruption.
Teamsters Local 2010 represents about 600 skilled-trade workers at UCLA who voted last week to strike. The UCLA workers' contract expired in 2013, and they are striking over the university system's refusal to negotiate over back wages.
Separately, about 12,000 clerical and administrative will hold a one-day strike over wages on Jan. 10 at all 10 University of California campuses and five medical centers, a Union spokeswoman indicated.
