Baton Rouge, La.-based The Shaw Group recently announced that its fossil/nuclear segment within its Power Group has been awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction contract by NV Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sierra Pacific Resources, Las Vegas, for the continuing construction of a new 500MW combined cycle, natural gas-fired power plant. The combined cycle plant will be built at the existing Harry Allen Generating Station north of Las Vegas.

St. Louis-based Guarantee Electrical has been selected to perform electrical work at the new $290-million SunCoke Energy plant in Granite City, Ill. The company is serving as electrical contractor, with 80 to 90 electricians onsite at peak production.

Norwalk, Conn.-based EMCOR Group recently announced its Welsbach Electric subsidiary has been awarded a contract to perform the electrical construction services for a new clean water treatment plant located in Westchester County, New York, for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. Welsbach Electric is responsible for the complete electrical installation associated with the construction of the project's two billion gallon-per-day ultraviolet light disinfection facility, a 170,000-square-foot, two-story concrete structure.
