Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Chesapeake, Odenton, Md., recently celebrated the accomplishments of approximately 80 electrical apprenticeship graduates, top apprentices, instructors of the year, and much more. This year’s graduation ceremony was hosted at the Marriott Inn & Conference Center (University of Maryland University College – UMUC) in Adelphi, Md., on Saturday, May 21 with more than 200 family, friends, distinguished guests, company representatives, sponsors, and staff to honor IEC Chesapeake’s Class of 2011.
Jean Maisel of JDL Electric based in Baltimore, Md., and IEC Chesapeake Chapter president welcomed the graduates and guests, and then unveiled IEC Chesapeake’s new logo that will supplement the traditional IEC National-based logo in an effort to enhance brand recognition throughout the Mid-Atlantic region that it serves. Next, Bob Mackey of Mackey Electrical Services took the stage as the Master of Ceremonies, introducing Mike Holt, founder and CEO of Mike Holt Enterprises based in Leesburg, Fla., as the guest speaker of the event. Following Holt’s speech, Jim Deal, director of education for IEC Chesapeake, recognized the instructors in attendance for their commitment to training with the following teachers receiving the Instructor of the Year Award for the Maryland and Virginia locations respectively:
- Maryland — Kenn Fuqua (Year-3 Odenton)
- Virginia — Mike Shanahan (Year-2/-3 Chantilly)
- 1st Place — Charles Thomas
- 2nd Place — Andrew Cusick
- 3rd Place — Michael Newcomb
