Maryland Apprenticeship Training Council (MATC) Approves New Program

On September 14, the Maryland Apprenticeship Training Council (MATC) approved IEC Chesapeake’s revised apprenticeship standards with significant changes to its four-year electrical apprenticeship program curriculum designed around Mike Holt Enterprises’ four-year apprenticeship curriculum. This four-year apprenticeship curriculum has also been approved in Virginia by the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), as well as with the DC Apprenticeship Council.

IEC Chesapeake decided to implement Mike Holt’s four-year electrical apprenticeship curriculum for the 2010/2011 school year because of its clearly defined lesson plans and user friendly format. “After an extensive and comprehensive review of several curricula, we collectively decided that Mike Holt’s program was the best curriculum for both the apprentices and the instructors," says John Ennis Jr., chair of IEC Chesapeake Apprenticeship & Training Committee. "It is our expectation that the partnership with Mike Holt Enterprises and IEC Chesapeake will continue to improve our apprenticeship program and provide the highest level of training available to our industry.”

“We were honored to build a program with the IEC Chesapeake apprenticeship team," says Mike Holt. "Our mission is to provide the finest training material to the electrical industry. When their apprenticeship team chose us as their educational partner we were impressed with their dedication to all of the details in making this transition a success.”
