M.C. Dean Elected to Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Accredited Standards Committee

Sept. 20, 2011
M.C. Dean accepted as full voting member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/American Industrial Hygiene Association Z10 Accredited Standards Committee

M.C. Dean, a Dulles, Va.-headquartered engineering and technology firm for mission critical systems and facilities, has been accepted as a full voting member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/American Industrial Hygiene Association Z10 Accredited Standards Committee.

Committee members come from a broad range of organizations, including industry, government, professional, labor, and general interest. ANSI-Z10 is a set of voluntary national consensus standards on occupational health and safety management systems designed to enhance those systems already in place.

John Bennett, M.C. Dean’s vice president of safety, will be the company’s representative to the committee. Bennett played a pivotal role in implementing the ANSI-Z10 framework into M.C. Dean’s Operational Risk Management System. In fact, the Naval Facilities Engineering Command and the United States Army Corps of Engineers both use M.C. Dean as an example of “safest contractor on site” since the company incorporated ANSI-Z10 into its Operational Risk Management System, resulting in dramatic improvements in safety practices.

As a consequence of the success M.C. Dean has experienced using ANSI-Z10, the company will be leading the team responsible for writing the contractor best-practice appendix to the standards. The appendix will provide guidance on implementing ANSI-Z10 for all users, including: construction, laboratories, vendors, suppliers, and operation and maintenance companies.
