Vestas Plans Oregon Expansion Despite Layoffs in Europe

June 2, 2009
The company hopes to hire 500 additional workers for its Oregon headquarters

Vestas Wind Systems, Randers SV, Denmark, recently laid off 1,900 employees in Northern Europe. Yet, despite these layoffs, the company still plans its expansion in Portland, Ore.

The company had hoped to break ground on its $250-million headquarters this summer, but the speed of the expansion will be delayed until late 2009 or early 2010 because the company's growth has slowed. The expansion would add about 500 workers to its existing Portland workforce of about 350.
