Border States Electric Launches E-commerce Website

Nov. 5, 2014
The e-commerce website exists to improve the way BSE’s customers purchase supplies, manage their inventory, and conduct their work.

Border States Electric (BSE), a wholesale electrical product and solution supplier, launched an e-commerce website to support its customers with online tools.

The website, https://www.borderstates.com, offers a catalog of more than 215,000 products and online tools for desktop and mobile use to help BSE customers see pricing and material availability, view open orders, and develop project lists and templates.

The e-commerce website exists to improve the way BSE’s customers purchase supplies, manage their inventory, and conduct their work. The new e-commerce website replaces an outdated e-commerce tool and is made for business-to-business processes but with typical business-to-consumer e-commerce usability.

To build the website, the distributor surveyed its customers to understand what tools would have the most impact on their businesses.

Improved functionality features product-specific search, product-specific search results filtering, entire site search, “My Lists” (custom ability to create product lists for easy ordering), order review, invoice review, and “Quick Order” (one-time part number entry that adds items directly to a cart).

Several videos exist to teach BSE customers how to use the e-commerce website: https://www.borderstates.com/Content/how-to-videos.

BSE supplies products and services to construction, industrial and utility customers. The 100% employee-owned company is the eight largest electrical distributor in the U.S. as rated by Electrical Wholesaling magazine, with more than 1,900 employees and 82 branches in 16 states. Corporate headquarters are located in Fargo, N.D.
