Denver Energy Job Fair Aims to Combat Skilled Labor Shortage

Aug. 5, 2014
Individuals of all ages and backgrounds vied for more than 100 entry-level and experienced positions with local electrical contractors and energy companies.

On Tuesday, June 24, the IECRM electrical school hummed with anticipation as job seekers, career changers, and veterans gathered for the second annual Energy Industry Job Fair in Denver. Individuals of all ages and backgrounds vied for more than 100 entry-level and experienced positions with local electrical contractors and energy companies, and many of them left the event with job offers or interviews. The Energy Industry Job Fair was produced by IECRM and sponsored by Premier Sponsor, Allcable, Inc., with support from Bauerle and Company, P.C., and Encore Electric, Inc.

Now in its second year, the Energy Industry Job Fair is produced annually by IECRM in an effort to fill the skilled labor gap within the Rocky Mountain electrical industry. The post-recession surge in construction projects left a number of Colorado and Wyoming contractors scrambling to find enough apprentices and licensed electricians to fill their growing list of openings.

IECRM promoted the event with billboards, online advertising, community outreach, and with the assistance of the Denver Office of Economic Development, multiple Colorado workforce centers, and Emily Griffith Technical College.

Some of the companies that recruited at the event included: 1st Electric Contractors, Inc., Accent Electrical Services, Encore Electric, Inc., Gexpro, and Namaste Solar.

All of the remaining job openings from the event can now be found on the IECRM website. Additionally, IECRM is hosting a second Energy Industry Job Fair in Loveland on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
