Three men were transported to various hospitals earlier this week after receiving burns from an electrical explosion at the WVA Manufacturing, LLC facility in Alloy, W.Va.
According to The Register Herald, the workers were in the basement of the aluminum-sided building when they struck a power source. Sources said the men suffered from arc flash burns. Another site, WVVA.com reported that the workers were injured by arc flash after accidentally cutting cords in the facility. Two were taken to Charleston Area Medical School for burns on their hands, while another was transported to Cabell Huntington for burns to the face.
WVVA.com also reported that captain Jim Sizemore with the Fayette County Sheriffs Department said a couple of transformers at the plant blew.
The facility produces silicon metal using five furnaces. The plant is a joint venture with Dow Corning Corp.
