NECA: Strengthening the Work Force

Each year, the construction industry’s job pool continues to shrink. Reaching out to the younger generations coming up through colleges and universities across the nation is one way to fortify our future work force. It is key to reach these young women and men at a time when they are determining the directions they will take in their studies. The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA),

Each year, the construction industry’s job pool continues to shrink. Reaching out to the younger generations coming up through colleges and universities across the nation is one way to fortify our future work force. It is key to reach these young women and men at a time when they are determining the directions they will take in their studies. The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), working with several partnering associations, created the Specialty Construction Institute (SCI). The project offers the first interuniversity course allowing a student at one school to take a course at another and earn credits toward a degree at his or her alma mater. Pennsylvania State University, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Kansas, University of Washington, and University of California, Berkeley have agreed to participate—with more expected to join. This effort should help bolster and expand the dwindling job pool in specialty construction.
