ESA Warns of Electrical Hazards When Replacing Metal Water Meters and Water Supply Lines

The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), an organization that enhances public electrical safety in Ontario, recently issued a warning regarding potential electrical hazards associated with the replacement of metallic water meters and water supply lines to plumbers. Any workers who undertake the replacement of a metallic water meter or metallic water piping system should be aware of the possibility of electric shock or arcing when the continuity of the water piping is interrupted.

National survey of U.S. adults reveals need for natural light indoors to improve body, mind, and spirit. More than two-thirds of adults believe natural light improves worker productivity, and 56% of all age groups agree that exposure to natural daylight would enable them to sleep better. Survey: ABC Members Invested $1.3 Billion in Construction Workforce Education in 2020

The funds provided craft, leadership, and safety education to 500,000 course attendees to advance their careers in commercial and industrial construction. Safety education accounted for 71% of the total workforce investment as per-person spending doubled, revealing an elevated focus on worker education, safety, and total human health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

UL to Collaborate with NREL to Commercialize SolarAPP+ Automated Permitting Tool

UL and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory recently announced a new initial memorandum of understanding to work toward further developing and commercializing the Solar Automated Permit Processing Plus (SolarAPP+) software that will automate the permitting process for residential solar systems. According to a recent press release from UL, the use of SolarAPP+ enables local governments to cut down on the time required to grant a permit from a national average of five business days to zero.
