The former electrician for Spain's Santiago de Compostela cathedral has been accused of stealing a priceless 12th century Codex Calixtinus.

The electrician went on trial last week for theft of what is considered the first guide for Christians making the pilgrimage to venerate St. James, according to an Associated Press report.

The Codex was found in his garage, along with other valuable religious works. Although his lawyer argued that evidence should be thrown out, a security video showed him in a cathedral office stuffing money into his pants pockets. In addition to the video evidence, he had also provided a confession.
