New York Hospital Wins FEMA Grant to Upgrade Electrical System

Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, New York, will receive a $5.4-million federal grant from FEMA to improve its electrical system. During Superstorm Sandy, the hospital lost power for 70 hours due to an outdated system that relies on one switch to keep the power running.

According to a report from Mid-Hudson News Network, the hospital's current electrical switch is 45 years old. The funding will ensure that the critical infrastructure improvements are made and will help the hospital better withstand future storms.

The total cost of the project is more than $7.2 million, the report said.
