The NECA New York City chapter has also set up a fund for the children and families of the 16 IBEW electricians, who were all employed by NECA contractors. NECA approved a $30,000 donation to the fund Oct. 21 at the NECA convention in Washington, D.C. So far, NECA members have donated more than $500,000 to relief funds. To contribute, send a check to:

NECA contractors nationwide have been very supportive in a time of need, said New York NECA Chapter Manager Joseph D’Angelo. “The response from around the country has been terrific,” he said. “NECA contractors responded to the point where we had to tell them to stop sending. Initially we needed hard hats, work gloves, goggles and respirators. We have more than we can use now.”

NECA contractors also contributed more than $209,000 to the American Red Cross. Now they are asked to donate to the New York Chapter's fund for the families of the electricians who lost their lives. “There were 16 Local #3 electricians lost and a couple of them were apprentices,” D’Angelo said. “We will solicit our own members, other NECA members and whoever else may want to participate.”
