2019’s Under 30 EC&M Electrical All Stars: Aaron Gadd

May 16, 2019
Aaron Gadd of Commercial Electrical Solutions is always up for experimenting with new technology and apps to streamline business operations.

AARON GADD
Title: Licensed Foreman
Company: Commercial Electrical Solutions
Location: Bourne, Mass.
Age: 27
Years on the Job: Eight years in trade, two with CES
Outside Interests: Spending time with his infant daughter, Rylie, and fiancé, Courtney, and competitively racing motocross bikes throughout New England

A job in commercial solar sparked Aaron Gadd’s interest in working to become an electrician. Gadd, who grew up in Fairhaven, Mass., attended the HVAC program at New Bedford Vocational Technical High School, but he always took an interest on the electrical side of the trade shop.

After completing 600 hours of electrical code classes at New Bedford Vocational Tech, he now works as an electrician at Commercial Electrical Solutions (CES). He says he is very passionate about his job and is dedicated to the electrical trade. Case in point: He wakes up between 4:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. every day and arrives at the job site at least 30 minutes early.

Aaron Gaad performs a jockey pump circuit conduit installation.

“I get to the site before the guys on my crew to ensure that everyone will have tasks to stay busy all day without any down time,” Gadd says.

His responsibilities include doing a weekly stock list, communicating with management, tracking the crews’ time, and using project management apps to submit daily logs and photos. Once a week, his company has a conference call with project managers and foremen to discuss the progress of jobs, manpower, and other topics to close out the jobs as smoothly as possible. At the end of each work day, he then prepares for the tasks for the following day.

He says he loves being an electrician and working for CES.

“I wouldn’t want to do anything else or work for any other company,” Gadd says. “I worked hard to earn my top lead foreman position, and I like the responsibility that comes with it. I like that I’m a big part of the job being successful and CES being successful.”

His team ranges from new high school graduates to seasoned professionals, and he says he embraces the challenge of trying to get the best out of each member of the team. Over time, he has learned how to communicate and motivate his team both as a whole and individually.

“Running big jobs and leading a team to success is a great feeling,” he says. “I’m honored and thankful for the opportunity and trust Matt Dennen (owner) and Ryan Dennen (vice president) have put in me.”

Gadd performs a print review with a project manager in Westport, Mass.

After earning his electrical license, Gadd took on the role as a foreman on one of the company’s largest jobs — the Hampton Inn of Buzzards Bay — where he runs a crew that ranges from four to 10 electricians.

“Each of these electricians has their own unique skills and experience level, and Aaron finds ways to assist all of them to accomplish their tasks and hit weekly goals set by him,” says Jacob Viveiros, assistant project manager for CES.

As an electrician at CES, he must also stay on top of rapidly advancing technology to track crew members’ labor hours and tasks so the company can accurately bid and budget future projects. Also, it helps him and his management team to discover which crew members are proficient at certain tasks.

Viveiros says Gadd can work with today’s construction technology, which has provided a lot of value to the company. For example, Gadd took the initiative to learn how to use a well-known project management software with no direction from management. He also experimented with a new app to learn how to use it and to maximize its capabilities.

Viveiros says Gadd is an extremely valuable team member at CES.

“In his time with CES, Gadd has exemplified that he is not only an All Star, but he is willing to do whatever it takes to help the company succeed and advance with the progressing industry,” Viveiros says.
