    March 18, 2011

On February 8, a 110-lb light fixture crashed on Interstate 93 northbound at the entrance to the O’Neill Tunnel, part of Boston's Big Dig tunnel, setting off an investigation into corrosion that has been found on the lights, according to a recent article in the Boston Herald. The state is launching a full review of the lighting — including the inspection of 230,000 clips that attach the light fixture to a frame fixed to the roof of the Big Dig tunnels. Of those, 3,000 clips had to be relocated as a temporary fix, according to Secretary of Transportation Jeffrey Mullen.
