• The Lighting Quotient Partners with IESNA for Student Scholarship

    Scholarship value for 2010 totals $2,500

    West Haven, Conn.-based The Lighting Quotient, in partnership with the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), New York, recently announced a new student scholarship in honor of Sylvan R. Shemitz, one of the innovative forces behind asymmetric lighting and founder of elliptipar and tambient.

    • All second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-year undergraduate or graduate students in accredited lighting degree programs are eligible to apply.
    • Students must submit a 1,500-word essay titled "The Next Generation of Lighting: How Would You Bring an Historical Lighting Installation into the Next Generation of Sustainability?" to demonstrate their understanding and vision for the future of the architectural lighting industry.
    • Application deadline is May 1.
    This year's scholarship value is $2,500 dollars and The Lighting Quotient also established an endowment, starting with a $50,000 donation, so that it can annually award a scholarship to one student. The value of the scholarship is based on the dividends of the endowment.
