Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Chesapeake has partnered with the Western Electrical Contractors Association (WECA) and Delmar, Cengage Learning to release the "Electrical Pre- Apprenticeship and Workforce Development Manual." The easy-to-understand guide gives students a general overview of the electrical industry as well as provides life skills and goals for their future endeavors. Jim Deal, IEC Chesapeake's director of continuing education and a co-author of the manual, noted that the book identified a need for pre-apprenticeship training and instruction.
This introduction to the electrical trade primes users for success in an apprenticeship with the goal of securing employment in the field. The manual focuses on basic electrical training as well as critical math, reading, safety, and soft skills necessary for success in the workplace. The target audience for the manual are those interested in learning about the electrical industry in career and technology schools, community colleges, youth build programs, and Job Corps.
