M.C. Dean, Inc. has announced its sponsorship in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011

The Solar Decathlon which will be held at the National Mall’s West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C., from Sept. 23 to Oct. 2, is an award-winning program that challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and visually appealing. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.

As a sustaining sponsor, M.C. Dean is supporting many aspects of the event, including design of the grid-connected solar power system and installation, operation and monitoring services. They will also deliver reliable service to the teams, sponsors, attendees, Department of Energy, and others involved in the competition.

“The Solar Decathlon’s goal of educating the next generation of architects and engineers falls hand in hand with M.C. Dean’s objective of providing experts in our industry,” said Bill Dean, president and CEO of M.C. Dean. “This event supports students who are dedicated to clean-energy development and innovation while educating the public about today’s technology solutions.”

The Solar Decathlon has grown into one of the most highly anticipated global design competitions ever held. Thousands of people visit the event each day to see practical housing solutions developed by college students nationwide. Sponsors support the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon through in-kind contributions that enable event organizers to hold a safe and successful event.

“The Solar Decathlon depends on the valuable support of our many sponsors,” said Richard King, director of the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. “Our sponsors play an integral role in ensuring that the Solar Decathlon provides a rich learning experience for the student decathletes and that we effectively educate the public about the money-saving opportunities and environmental benefits presented by clean energy products and design solutions.”

The Solar Decathlon, which is free and open to the public, will enable visitors to tour the houses, gather ideas to use in their own homes, and learn how energy-saving features can help them save money today.
