Partnership gives displaced workers from other sectors route to find employment in construction.

Industry and government in the United Kingdom recently partnered to launch the Construction Talent Retention Scheme in an effort to secure essential talent in the U.K. construction sector as the country recovers from COVID-19.

Leading the non-profit initiative, TRS is an independent employer led program, originally initiated by former Secretary of State (BEIS), which is dedicated to supporting the attraction, development and retention of people and skills in U.K. construction, manufacturing, engineering and technology.

According to a release from the organization, the Construction Talent Retention Scheme< which is also supported by the Construction Leadership Council and other leading trade organizations, will keep skills in the sector, matching displaced workers with employers seeking new staff.

Announced earlier this month and set to formally launch in late July, the Construction Talent Retention Scheme will be an online portal that supports redeployment of staff at risk of redundancy across the sector, while also enabling temporary employee loans between businesses. The Scheme gives displaced workers from other sectors a route to find new employment in construction.

“This is a proven solution with a strong track-record in other sectors, cross-industry support and pledges from our leading employers,” said Association for Consultancy & Engineering Chief Executive Hannah Vickers. “It is vital we keep the skills in our sector to avoid a talent drain and is the only way we will be able to ramp-up activity to lead the recovery of the wider economy and deliver growth through new buildings and infrastructure.”

The program has funding secured through the end of the financial year, providing a free online platform for any organization looking to hire, while ensuring that candidates’ skills and experience are given a prominent platform within the industry. Visit the program’s website for more information or read the flyer.
