Running raceway overhead means you typically must lift it overhead. And therein lie several dangers that you can easily overlook.
One of the dangers involves a leading cause of workplace injuries: falling off a ladder. To prevent this, place the ladder such that your center of gravity (while supporting that raceway with your arms) will be directly over a ladder step. The raceway can move your combined center of gravity to one side, toward the front, or toward the back.
Rather than climb the ladder while holding that raceway (this can cause you to lose your balance very rapidly), hoist the raceway up or have someone hand it to you. Again, consider your center of gravity.
A stick of 4-in. rigid isn’t hard for you to handle. But what if you handle stick after stick for hours on end? When you feel fatigue coming on, stop. Let your foreman know you need something else to do until your back and shoulders can recover. It’s also smart to plan sections of overhead work to alternate with other tasks.
