The Top 5 Lowest-Paying States for Electrical Engineers: 2020

Taking the top spot for the third consecutive year, Arkansas holds the No. 1 position as the lowest-paying state for electrical engineers, based on 2020 data from the “Occupational Employment and Wages, May 2020 Study,” released from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Ohio, Nevada, and Kansas remained in the Top 5 rankings, although their positions did alter slightly from 2019, with Montana being a new addition to this year's list at spot No. 2.

Here is a look at the Top 5 lowest-paying states for electrical engineers based on annual mean salary and hourly wage from 2020 data, presented in descending order. However, it is important to keep in mind that these numbers and rankings do not take the cost of living into account.
