Recently, the SAE EV Coupler Task Force voted to establish the J3400 standard as a Recommended Practice, marking a significant step forward in the standardization process. This milestone brings the J3400 standard closer to official publication in a format that can be cited in regulations and used by manufacturers.
According to a release by the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, completion of the SAE J3400 standardization process is expected soon.
"Once finalized, the standard will ensure that any vehicle or charging equipment supplier or manufacturer can use, produce, or deploy the connector, thereby expanding charging access for current and future EV drivers across the country," the Joint Office stated in the release. "The Joint Office applauds the SAE EV Coupler Task Force for their work in recommending the standard and extends its gratitude to the SAE team for their ongoing partnership and support."
