TIA Issues Call for Interest on Three Smart Buildings-Related Standards Projects

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR- 42.1 Engineering Committee on Premises Telecommunications Infrastructure has issued a call for interest for three standards projects related to smart building performance.

For document ANSI/TIA-4966-A, initially titled "Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Educational Facilities," TR-42.1 is developing guidelines to update the addendum, current standards, and best practices at the 5-yr mark of the document. This document is intended to enable the planning of a structured cabling system that can be used with a multitude of services and systems in educational buildings and spaces. The purpose of the standard is to enable designers to incorporate relevant telecommunications transport mechanisms within the design of educational buildings.

For document ANSI/TIA-568.0-E, initially titled "Generic Telecommunications Cabling for Customer Premises,” TR-42.1 is developing guidelines that will provide updates for generic telecommunications cabling. The committee is also developing guidelines to specify requirements for cabling system structure, topologies and distances, installation, performance and testing. While adding content from Addendum 1 and incorporating additional updates, including content regarding 28AWG patch cords.

For document TIA-568.1-E, initially titled "Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard,” TR-42.1 is developing guidelines that will provide updates to requirements for telecommunications cabling within a commercial building and between commercial buildings in a campus environment. The committee is also developing guidelines to define terms, specify cabling topology, list cabling requirements, establish cabling distances, set telecommunications outlet/connector configurations and provide additional useful information while adding content from Addendum 1 and incorporating additional updates, including content regarding 28AWG patch cords.

TIA is actively seeking participation in this project from the user and general interest communities.

Stakeholders for these documents may include, but are not limited to designers, installers, education facility owners, building owners and building tenants.
