IES Establishes Committee for Resilient Lighting

The IES issued a general invitation for applications from interested parties to participate on this committee.

The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) announced that it has established a new committee for resilient lighting to do research, develop consensus of best practices, write standards documents and educate the profession on lighting equipment and recommended practices for lighting that must survive and perform during and after adverse events such as storms and earthquakes. The IES is also seeking members for this Committee.

IES said the Resilient Lighting Committee is being created “in response to the increasing threat of natural and manmade hazards to the safety of the public and the vitality of the United States. Disasters and aging infrastructure can result in unacceptable losses of life and property, straining the ability of the U.S. to respond in a timely and efficient manner. Contemporary planning, building materials, and design, construction and operational techniques can make local communities more resilient to these threats.”
