The Emerging Technologies Program at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Building Technologies Office (BTO) is seeking information from the public regarding high-efficacy replacement lamps in general illumination applications.
The DOE in an e-mail cited the following as key areas of interest:
- Incandescent lamps that currently do not have a suitable replacement lamp meeting or exceeding 45 lumens per watt (lm/W);
- Performance metrics, targets and design criteria for suitable replacement lamps;
- Gaps in technology that impede the design, development and future sale of replacement lighting products meeting or exceeding 45 lm/W;
- Technology advances that could lead to equivalent lighting products meeting or exceeding 45 lm/W;
- Potential market impact of new or improved lamps if a suitable product could be developed.
The DOE said this is just a request for information — applications aren’t being taken yet — but it is gathering feedback from stakeholders on these matters prior to potentially issuing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). Responses by e-mail are due by April 4.
