Five Ways Ascend™ Smart Stands Out from Other Smart Timer Options

Oct. 29, 2018
Installing the Ascend™ Smart 7-Day In-Wall Programmable Timer can save contractors and homeowners both time and money.

Lighting control systems can improve security, energy savings and convenience for the homeowner. However, with such a wide variety of products on the market, it can be a daunting task to find a device that is easy to install, operate and maintain.

Intermatic recently launched the new Ascend Smart In-Wall Timer to simplify installation and setup for contractors and streamline everyday use for homeowners. Through its intuitive interface, contractors can save five to 15 minutes on each installation of the Wi-Fi-enabled control.

Here are five benefits that differentiate the Ascend Smart In-Wall Timer from other products on the market.

1. Out-of-the-Box Solution

Ascend Smart doesn’t require a smart home hub, extra components or additional software to be fully functional. Unlike solutions that require homeowners or contractors to purchase additional hardware or complete a complicated installation process, Ascend is ready to go straight out of the box. As an added benefit, homeowners only need to focus on one component— Ascend Smart —rather than worrying about an entire smart home system during everyday use.

2. No Need for a Wi-Fi Connection at Setup

Many smart home solutions require Wi-Fi to fully complete installation. Unfortunately, network connections aren’t typically established at the beginning of a new home construction project. Instead, Wi-Fi is set up long after construction is finished and the homeowner has moved in.

With the Ascend Smart In-Wall Timer, contractors can install and configure the device through a peer-to-peer or access point connection. This allows contractors to wrap up installation well before homeowners even get their house keys, eliminating any need to return to the home for additional service.

3. Bright, Easy-to-Read LCD

Many timers on the market today look and feel like a traditional light switch. Though this allows tech-forward solutions to blend in with existing switches, it can leave homeowners in the dark during everyday use.

Having a built-in display, such as the one included with Ascend, gives contractors flexibility during installation while providing convenience and control to homeowners. Because Ascend highlights the current ON/OFF status of the timer, the current time and the next scheduled event, homeowners don’t need to hassle with taking out their smartphone every time they want to know when the lights are set to turn on or off next. Instead, they pick which is most convenient – accessing Ascend at the device or through their smartphone – depending on the circumstances.

4. Pre-Programmed Templates

To streamline installation and setup, Ascend includes three pre-programmed templates that account for approximately 80 to 90 percent of all scheduling needs. For example, contractors can use the Astronomic feature to turn lights on at dusk and off at dawn in a few quick steps.

Moreover, unlike many smart controls, Ascend includes a “Schedule Save” feature that allows contractors to save custom schedules and repurpose them across multiple timers. This lets installers program schedules without connecting to an Ascend device and then easily share those schedules via email or text message.

5. Battery Backup

If severe weather hits and there’s a loss of power, homeowners won’t lose all of their programming data if they’re using Ascend. The smart control keeps date and time information in place for up to three days in the event of a power loss while program schedules are preserved indefinitely.

Maintaining program information can save homeowners from the hassle of having to reprogram the timer from scratch or call an electrician for a follow-up service visit. However, not all smart devices offer this safeguard in the way Ascend does.

Through its contractor-friendly interface and tech-forward homeowner features, it’s clear why Ascend Smart stands apart from the competition in such a fast-paced, 24/7 world.
