Moving Violations Video No. 181: Where’s the Firestop Material?
This is a good example of a violation of Sec. 300.21 of the 2017 NEC. Openings that are made for electrical penetrations in fire-rated walls, ceilings and floors must be sealed with an approved fire-stop material. As you can see in this video, the installer made no attempt at all to seal this hole.

Russ started in the electrical trade as an apprentice in 1985. He worked his way up to become a Journeyman Electrician and then eventually became a Master Electrician and Licensed Construction Supervisor. In 1999 Russ become an Electrical Instructor for The Peterson School of Engineering in Massachusetts where he developed his passion for teaching, and quickly became Department Head of Electrical Instruction.
