Where flexible metal conduit (FMC) is installed, and where flexibility is not required after installation, an equipment grounding conductor is required or is not required to be installed in a flexible metal conduit?

    1. Is not required to be installed in the FMC if the requirements of 250.118(5) are met
    2. Is required to be installed in the FMC per 250.118(5)
    3. Is required to be installed and be the same size as the largest ungrounded conductor
    4. The 2011 NEC does not address this type of installation.

    Answer: A

As noted in 348.60, it is not a mandatory requirement to install an equipment grounding conductor within FMC, where the FMC is not used to provide flexibility for equipment that requires movement after installation. The FMC may be used as the equipment ground return path (equipment grounding conductor) per 250.118(5).
