Explanation: Section 424.20(A) in the 2020 NEC permits thermostatically controlled switching devices to be used as a disconnect means if they meet five conditions:

  • It has a marked OFF position
  • Directly opens all HOT conductors in the OFF position
  • Designed so the circuit cannot be energized automatically after the device is placed in the OFF position
  • Located within sight of the baseboard heater
  • Located in an accessible location (new requirement for 2020 NEC)
