• Code Quiz: Service Entrance Conductor Requirements

Test your knowledge of the NEC with this challenging question.
    Sept. 15, 2022

    Based on the 2020 NEC.

Question: True or False? Service entrance conductors entering a building are limited to 10 ft in length before connecting to the service disconnect.

    See answer below.

    Answer: False

Explanation: Section 230.70(A)(1) of the 2020 NEC requires the service disconnect to be located "nearest the point of entrance of the service conductors." No maximum length is specified. Since nearest the point of entry can be subject to the interpretation of the AHJ some jurisdictions will specify the length of conductor permitted and 10 ft is a common interpretation for many AHJs.
