• What’s Wrong Here? Hint: Roasted Raceway

Do you know how this installation violates the NEC? Hint: Roasted raceway

    Hint: Roasted raceway

I’m not exactly sure what happened to this PVC raceway, but it appears to be burned and melted. This location is a small space between two exterior storage sheds. This space is way too narrow for a person to fit in, making the remains of this raceway run inaccessible. The lack of accessibility to what was once a LB conduit body is a violation of Sec. 314.29, which requires conduit bodies to be installed so the wiring can be accessed. The damaged raceway violates Sec. 110.12(B) requirements for having no damaged parts that can adversely affect the mechanical strength and safe operation of the equipment. This raceway must be replaced. The wiring itself looks as though it may have also been scorched by whatever heat source damaged the raceway. This whole job may need a “do-over.”
